I’ve already started in on the books on Sinatra and Erlang web services—so far so good! Reviews forthcoming once...

I’m migrating my blog here from its previous home on Github Pages, powered by Jekyll. It was a good run, and I especially enjoyed using Git/GitHub, Markdown and Vim to do my bloggin’. I’ve decided to move on for the time being. Posterous has some great features (not much beyond what I need), and it’s a solid platform. I also feel that the convenience and mixed-media...

My Software Apprenticeship Reading List
Here’s a list of books I’ve been reading during my apprenticeship thus far, or began reading specificially for this experience. They may or may not be of interest to other programmers or apprentices, but I thought I’d share! In no particular order: Apprenticeship Patterns — Highly recommended. I will probably be talking more about my reaction to this book in particular...

Dave Newman: Leaving .net →
whatupdave: We are, as software developers, in various states of alone-ness. A company I worked at once had been operating for years under the assumption that it was OK for software to take months to integrate and deploy; they had never heard of continuous integration. They thought it was normal to rewrite… Welcome to the Ruby community! :)

Tip
makeitmanageable: Trying to constrain yourself while creating ideas is like an artist confining himself to a single canvas with which to paint; it might take him thousands of canvasses to create a masterpiece. When trying to find ideas (brainstorming, perhaps), just write every single idea down and assess their quality later; You will go through a lot of ideas before you find your “masterpiece”.
